Antiparasitic agents are used for the treatment or prevention of infectious diseases transmitted by parasites.
Malachite Green
The triphenylmethane dye Malachite green acts against fungal diseases and parasites in fish. However, in the EU, it must not be applied for the treatment of food producing animals since it has carcinogenic, mutagenic and teratogenic properties. Therefore residues of the substance traditionally used in aquaculture are not allowed in food. The EU commission has set a MRPL of 2 µg/kg for Malachite green and its metabolite Leucomalachite green. At GALAB we determine Malachite green, Leucomalachite green as well as crystal violet and its metabolite Leucocrystal violet using highly sensitive LC-MS-MS technology.
