The HafenCity Run 2024

GALAB has participated in this year’s HafenCity Run. One of Hamburg’s biggest charity runs with over 17,000 participants and more than 500 teams. It goes 4.5 kilometres through the “HafenCity” quarter in the centre of Hamburg. The run has become something of a tradition for GALAB, as we have been taking part every year for almost 15 years now.

The event itself isn’t about who finishes first: everyone can run at their own pace as the entry fee for each runner goes to charity, no matter how fast they finish. But that didn’t stop our team from giving it their all and running as fast as they could.

A perfect day to run

We met under sunny, blue skies, not a cloud in sight and in pleasantly warm temperatures. Perfect conditions for running. The whole team was highly motivated and couldn’t wait to get started as we made our way to the start line. Even in a sea of other running teams, our team was recognisable from afar as we wore bright pink jerseys this year.

Once our turn had come, and the starting signal had been given, we ran through the lively HafenCity, cheered on by the many spectators. The run took us through streets, through passageways, up open staircases and along the banks of the River Elbe. When we finally reached the finish line, we were greeted with refreshments sponsored by the organisers.

A picnic together to round off the day

After the run, we met up for a picnic in the city park to round off the day with lots of sandwiches and local pastries. All participants were very happy with this year’s HafenCityRun and are already looking forward to next year.

It’s a great team event that we look forward to every year. We can hardly wait for next year’s run.
